Antes, ela já havia estado entra as 10 estrelas mais bem pagas dos USA, segundo a revista The Hollywood Report, entre 2002 a 2004. Três temporadas depois, a revista Forbes a considerava a nona das 20 mulheres mais ricas do mundo do entretenimento. 

Hoje, calcula-se que já tenha colocado mais de 500 milhões de dólares em seu cofre. Dinheiro proveniente de suas atividades como cantora, compositora, produtora musical, dançarina, atriz, modelo, estilista, produtora de televisão, coreógrafa e empresária, o que a tornaram, também, a artista hispânica mais influente nos EUA, segundo uma outra revista, a People en Español.

Jennifer nasceu em Nova York e cresceu em Castle Hill, no Texas. Mas voltou para a sua terra, pelo final da adolescência. Tem mais duas irmãs, Lynda e Leslie. Aos 19 de idade, trabalhava como garçonete e, com o que ganhava, pagava aulas de teatro, canto e dança. Nos estudos, entrou para uma faculdade de Direito, mas só a cursou por um semestre. Chegou a trabalhar, também, como secretária de escritório jurídico.
