O pernambucano Vevé e o gaúcho Saulzinho andaram por São Januário pela primeira metade da decada-1960. Na época, a Turma da Colina passava por entressafra e não vinha beliscando taças e nem faixas. Com isso, o primeiro terminou emprestado ao Esporte Clube Bahia. De sua pare, o segundo teve mais sorte e foi o principal artilheiro do Campeonato Carioca de 1962, com 18 tentos, deixando para trás os grandes "matadores" da época – Dida, Henrique Frade, Amarildo, Quarentinha, etc –. Poderia ter ido mais longe, mas uma contusão o tirou de cena quando vivia boa fase, barrando-lhe, inclusive, a chance de disputar uma vaga na Seleção Brasileira que foi à Copa do Mundo do Chile.
