Quem pinga aqui nos olhos é a baiana Eliana Bittencourt, moreníssima do time de vôlei do Clube Bahiano de Tênis (como se escrevia), em 1958. Confira o que é que a Bahia tem. No passado, as mulheres eram discriminadíssima no Brasil, sem chances de se sobressaírem nas diversas práticas desportivas. Só em 1920, tivemos a primeira representante delas participando dos Jogos Olímpicos, a gloriosa Maria Lenk.
Aliás, por causa do seu desejo de praticar esportes, a moça, descendentes de alemães, chegou a ser ameaçada de excomunhão, pela Igreja Católica Apostólica Romana, quando era uma adolescente, em São Paulo.
Maria Lenk, no entanto, não se dobrou. Encarou a guerra e praticou a sua modalidade, com muita raça, deixando um exemplo de persistência e garra para a juventude sadia que procura o esporte.
